A common misconception, repeated here, is that an opt-in list drives sales.

For most purchases, people are in the buying window for a short period. They go in, research and purchase. During that period they want to hear from you - outside of it they don't.

Often by the time they've reached your list the buying decision is complete - or has moved beyond the information you are sending out.

Lists to send to - opt in or bought - should be only part of the marketing engagement strategy.

Nick Stamoulis

Inbound marketing techniques are more effective and yield a higher ROI. Content marketing is essential, especially for B2Bs, in order to compete online. People are looking for information online and want to do business with a company that they can trust. If you don't have any content out there, you will lose business opportunities to those that do.
