Notify Me Text Mining by Choice

Jack Vinson's post Text Mining for the rest of us makes a valid point about the overload of information and, as a user, being able to control what knowledge you get.

He says: "I would like to echo what Marshall Kirkpatrick commented on my recent Smartening the aggregator post that I don't want automatic filtering and grouping on everything . I want the tool to give me the option of saying, "please find other stuff like this," where I have many options on what "like this" means.

I could see a lot of value in using a text mining-enabled tool to help me do ongoing research where I don't necessarily want to read the river of news in the given area."

Many searches and filters  deluge you with information that may be grouped accordingly but has no relevance to you or your needs.  Once you find a site that provides knowledge you'd like to keep apprised of, a tool that allows you to select the type/topic of information that's of interest and to be able to designate how you'd like to be notified (by item, daily, weekly) puts you in control of the situation.

Offering interactive tools that allow users to choose what knowledge transfer they are engaged in is a powerful way to build relationships and provide value.  Another marketing key is that by offering such a tool, you can see easily what interests engaged users have and tailor your content to match the context of their needs.

Wouldn't it be amazing to actually have a company care enough about your interests in a topic that they provide you with information and knowlege that's useful to you?  Instead of just emailing you whatever information they're sending out that day?

How do you deliver knowledge value to your web site users?
